You will ask, what is fear? Is it something that we seek, something we try to hide from or perhaps simply something we badly want to understand? What, depending on the individual at hand, is fear and how to interpret it? As an evil lurking in the mist, waiting for the slightest sign of any weakness or perhaps as a force of which mere purpose is to provide an incentive for a much greater activity? Surely each and every one of us interprets and recieves fear differently. Some try to avoid it at all cost, and some do quite the contrary, desiring to spend as much time as possible in its company, taking the greatest delight in every singe impupse, every stimulus, that they recieve. But what is fear for me, for you and for all of us...players. In my life I have met with many diverse opinions, some stating it is a form of recognizing the pressence of danger which the players try to find in the virtual world, for the real world ceased to provide enough strong thrilling experience to them or the real world is too brutal for an average teenager so he tries to hide away in a world where he could face all danger. In my humble opinion, fear is something we all desire, even if in small doses, that is the reason why whe venture into those narrow, rot-smelling virtual corridors where we can meet our fear face to face and eye to eye. As far as my opinion goes, the best game for this very purpose is "Silent Hill", a game which chartered new courses and set new standards in the branch of Survival Horrors. Compared to "Silent Hill", "Resident Evil" seems a mere fairy tale. There the player was "scared" by slow zombies jumping out of the closets or sudden shortage of medi-kits or ammunition. To be honest, those kind of tricks did not work on me. Even despite RE's being rather uncapable of providing fear, the game IS quite enjoyable. But amosphere-wise I can easily say that "Silent Hill" is currently the best game on the market. Here the player is scared gradually , while going deeper into the game it is scarier and scarier. Imagine that you are walking through a foggy, deserted city, only to soon find yourself in its alternative version which bears no resemblence to what you could percieve normally. The walls are covered by stain or dried blood, instead of concrete road there is an old rust-coverd net through which we can see as rusty an old metal pipe or working machines. Monsters begin to attack, whose mere existence you wouldn't even suspect, save for believe. The music, or rather the sounds which it consists of, is also a nice selection of steps, broken glass, voices of insane and irregular work of pistons of some strange contraption, screams or laughter surely having their origin in a body of no human semblance, adding to all this a little radiowhich is your one and only ally in this twisted world. It informs you of an incoming danger and the louder it cracks, the closer the danger is. Besides all this, the inevitable darkness which accompanies the player almost through the whole game, brightened only by a dim light coming from your flashlight which oftentimes reveals something we would strongly prefer not to see. I shall never forget the moment when I played it for the first time in my life. I was all shaking for constant feeling of fear and unceartanity. Besides all those merits and qualities there is this oh so riveting music which will add a great degree of depth to your game experience. All those factors make for a amazing mixture which must go withoug being noticed. Surely NOT(let the over 2 million websites made by fans warrant this). That said, I warmly invite you all for an enjoyable read about the greatest game ever.
